The SM600 shows the features of Cannondale's 1985 top model, although the serial No. refers it to be produced in 1986. I guess it to be an early 86.
It's an early aluminium series production bike with sloping top tube, featuring a smaller rear wheel. Up front sits a Tange I crown fork with an usual 26" MTB wheel.
Joe Montgomery started the Cannondale company in 1971. Their first product released was a bicycle trailer called Bugger. They produced camping equipment and bike panniers and racks until 1983, when the first Cannondale alumimium road/touring bicycles came out.
In 1984 followed the first mountainbike with sidepull BMX rear brake.
In the nineties Cannondale became very successful with it's big racing team including riders such as Missy Giove and Miles Rockwell and Tinker Juarez. In 1994 the Volvo Cannondale Team members won seven World Championships medals.
